What is a Segway PT?

A Segway PT is a two-wheeled electric transportation solution that's in use for patrolling applications by more than 1,000 organisations worldwide. The Segway PT provides the manoeuvrability, visibility and efficiency required by the most demanding patrol applications while improving response time, and reducing fuel and fleet maintenance costs and officer fatigue.

The Segway Patroller was designed specifically for these applications, providing officers with a more tailored solution for their daily rounds.

How does a Segway PT move?

The Segway PT uses LeanSteer™ Technology to move you from Point A to B. Gently move the LeanSteer frame and handlebar left or right in the direction you want to travel and feel the machine respond almost instantly.

How fast can the Segway PT travel?

Each Segway PT comes with two operational settings, "beginner" and "standard." Beginner setting is set to 13kph, and the standard setting is set to 20kph. 20 kph is roughly equal to a really fast run.

Is the Segway PT more efficient than a car?

Yes. The Segway PT is 11 times more efficient than the average car, and over three times more efficient than even the motorised scooters. As a zero-emissions vehicle, the Segway PT can also go indoors.

How far can a Segway PT go on a single charge?

Depending on your base model, payload, riding style and terrain, a single charge can support up to 38km of travel.

How do you charge a Segway PT?

A standard wall outlet can be used to charge your Segway PT's batteries. It takes about 15 minutes to get enough charge to travel 1.6km. A full day's charge (approx. 8-10 hrs.) costs less than a newspaper in electricity.

Are there weight limits for the Segway PT?

Yes, Segway sets weight limits for rider safety and to reduce the risk of damage to the Segway PT. A rider must not be less than 45 kg. The maximum payload (which includes rider and all cargo) for the Segway PT is 117 kg. The total weight of any handlebar cargo plus any additional attachments hanging from the handlebar should not exceed 4.5 kg.

Do you offer Segway PT training programs?

A key component to a successful Segway PT implementation is a thorough training program. Learning to use a Segway PT is not difficult, but it does require some time and attention to understand what it can truly offer to your organisation. These programs provide a product overview, safety information, and use-specific pointers so that you can develop consistent operating procedures.

Our business and public safety customers repeatedly tell us how important it is to develop this protocol to ensure that users consistently meet and exceed performance expectations. The Washington Metro Police Department's Police Academy developed their own Segway PT training program to assist in their community policing efforts; read more here.

Segway 4 U offer training options that range from product orientation and basic rider instruction to train-the-trainer programs. A portion of this is ensuring you establish a proper program for helping your organisation be self sufficient for adding new riders.
